Bear Island Kennels: About Us
We are located south of Ely, Minnesota on Bear Island Lake. Dogs have always been a part of my life through obedience work, sled dog racing and for the past twenty-one years working with hunting dogs. Presently, I have an English Setter and three French Brittanys. I have found that the French Brittany is now my breed of choice. I train my own dogs and have hunted them on quail, chukar, pheasant and grouse.

About the French Brittany
The French Brittany is separate and distinct in all respects from the American Brittany who is a distant cousin to the French Brittany. The French Brittany (Epagneul Breton) is totally of French origin and a pure product of the early French foundation bred stock. The French Brittany is the smallest of the pointing breeds. They are a strong pointer and a natural retriever having tremendous stamina.
An outstanding breed, suitable for hunting all species of upland game, the French Brittany is a close working dog with a fantastic nose having uncanny bird sense, and passionate in search of game. In addition to being highly intelligent, they are very stylish on point. The French Brittany matures early for fieldwork and is easy to train if given proper socialization and exposure to upland game. Because of their intelligence, compact size, friendly and affectionate nature, the French Brittany makes a wonderful companion for the home.
